Three Types Of Men's Hats To Wear While Boating

Posted on

When you have a boating excursion scheduled, it can be fun to shop for clothing that you'll wear during this special occasion. This is especially true if you're getting together with friends on a yacht, a large pontoon boat, or some other type of vessel for a party or a cruise. As you assemble your wardrobe, don't forget to look for a hat, too. Wearing a hat while you go boating is equally important for style and function. While you'll want to wear one that complements your outfit, you'll also appreciate that it provides some degree of protection from the sun. Here are three types of men's hats to wear while boating.

Straw Hat

A straw hat is a type of hat that will never go out of style when it comes to boating. This is a traditional hat choice, but one that's just as fashionable today as it was a century ago. Women often favor straw hats with large, floppy brims, but a good choice for men is a hat with a smaller, stiffer brim. Often, you'll find straw hats with colorful bands around them. Something in blue and white, for example, works well because these colors are often present in nautical themes.

Captain's Hat

If you have a good sense of humor and want to have a little fun on your boating excursion, don't shy away from buying a captain's hat. Even if you won't be the one at the controls of the vessel, this choice of headwear will surely bring some smiles to the faces of your fellow passengers. There are several different styles of captain's hats available at hat stores, but a common look is one with a white top and a black or navy blue brim — often with gold stitching along the edges. It's also common for this style of hat to have a badge in the front.

Ball Cap

Another choice of headwear that may appeal to you when you're shopping in advance of a boating excursion is a ball cap. Look for one that has an emblem that relates to a nautical theme — even if the emblem makes reference to a brand that doesn't actually exist. For example, you might find a rustic-looking ball cap with a badge that makes reference to a fictional bait shop. Or, you might be able to find one with a logo for a well-known marine oil manufacturer or even a boating company.
